Set for Publication Late-Spring 2026
Ray Bradbury spent his entire career tinkering with his novels and short stories. He often said he would put a story away to revisit it months later with fresh eyes. In some cases projects could take years to complete, such as
SOMEWHERE A BAND IS PLAYING, which was published after 50 years.
MASKS went unfinished, a project which he toyed with on and off during his career.
Gauntlet’s latest title, PTERODACTYLS: A COLLECTION OF STORIES, presents readers with the first iterations of many stories that have never been collected in these earliest forms. A few of these stories were never published again, while others were reworked and tinkered with heavily by Bradbury before appearing in later collections. Gauntlet’s limited edition is the only time these have been brought together for the reader straight from the tear sheets of their original publications.
The stories in the collection are:
The Swan
The Wilderness
End of Summer
The Pumpernickel
Undersea Guardians
The Trunk Lady
The Electrocution
Final Victim
Four-Way Funeral
The Small Assassin
The Wind
El Dia De Muerte
The Headpiece
The Pterodactyls
The Joke
I, Rocket
I, Mars
And then, the Silence
The Long Years
The Watchful Poker Chip
Her Eyes, Her Lips, Her Limbs
The Monster Maker
The Wonderful Death of Dudley Stone
PTERODACTYLS: A COLLECTION OF STORIES will be available in two versions:
- An unsigned edition
- A numbered signed edition limited to 100 copies
The signed edition will include “classic” Bradbury tipsheets which he signed for many Gauntlet titles, such as previously seen in PHOENIX 451.
While both editions will include an introduction by Owen King, only the 100-copy edition will be signed by King.
Unsigned Edition: $75
Signed Edition: $250 (Optional Slip Case: $75)
Taking orders beginning January 1, 2026
Note: We suggest you use PayPal when ordering this and other Gauntlet titles. We’ve noticed over the past few months that many credit cards have been declined, and the cumbersome process of trying to reach out for updates has resulted in customers missing out on securing their copies of the book ordered. Although we will continue to take credit card orders, we will be giving priority to orders using PayPal. Please reach out with any concerns or questions regarding this matter.
