We were saddened to learn of the death of William Peter Blatty, most famous for his novel The Exorcist for which he also wrote the screenplay for the acclaimed film. Blatty died January 12th at the age of 89. Prior to The Exorcist becoming a best-seller he had been primarily known as a comedy writer. His credits include the screenplay for “A Shot in the Dark” a sequel to “The Pink Panther”. Blatty initially refused to write a sequel to his most famous novel, but relented in 1983 with Legion. He didn’t like being placed in the straightjacket of a horror author but at some point became reconciled to being forever associated with The Exorcist. Gauntlet published the first signed limited editor of The Exorcist. A fine writer whose influence will be with us forever he will be sadly missed.
